Shed questions, answered

Think about the largest things you will store, such as a mower or bikes, and add room to walk in and reach shelves. A 6x4 suits garden tools, an 8x6 fits tools plus a mower and bikes, and 10x8 or larger works well as a workshop. Sizes are approximate and in feet, so check the exact measurements in cm on each product.

A firm, flat and level base that is slightly larger than the shed’s floor: concrete, paving slabs or a shed base kit. Building straight onto grass or soil lets the shed move, which can twist the frame and stop the doors closing properly.

Dip treated timber is coated in preservative. It costs less but needs a coat of wood treatment once built, then regular re-treating. Pressure treated timber has preservative forced deep into the wood, so it lasts longer with less upkeep. Many pressure treated sheds include a rot guarantee; the details are on each product.

Most wooden sheds include a floor. Some metal and plastic sheds, and some bike and garden stores, do not. Check the specification on each product.

Delivery is free to most mainland UK addresses, usually to the kerbside. Each product page shows the current estimated delivery time, and for many sheds you will get an email to book your delivery day.
