Before you order
- Measure your space Mark out the building's full size and leave about 60cm all round so you can build it and treat it.
- Prepare a level base It needs a firm, level base such as concrete, paving slabs or a timber frame, the same size as the floor or slightly larger.
- Plan to treat the timber Our buildings come untreated or with a dip-treated base coat. Apply a wood preservative after assembly and then every year to keep the warranty valid.
- Check planning rules In England most garden buildings don't need planning permission. Within 2m of a boundary, keep the total height to 2.5m or less, and check with your council if you're unsure.
- Assembly required Every building arrives needing assembly. Plan for two people.

Log cabin questions, answered
19mm logs suit summer use, hobbies and storage. 28mm logs are sturdier and warmer, and suit use for most of the year. 44mm logs are the warmest and the best choice for a year-round garden office or studio, especially with added insulation and heating.
Yes. A 28mm or 44mm cabin makes a good office. Any electrics should be installed by a qualified electrician, and you may want to add insulation to the floor and roof for winter use.
Solid timber expands and shrinks a little with the weather, so the logs settle over the first months. Avoid fixing shelves or panels across several logs, so the walls can move freely.
A firm, level base such as concrete, paving slabs or a timber frame, the same size as the floor or slightly larger. A level base keeps doors and windows opening smoothly, and is usually a condition of the warranty.
Yes. Our summerhouses and log cabins come untreated or with a dip-treated base coat only. Apply a good quality wood preservative or paint after assembly, then once a year. Regular treatment is a condition of the manufacturer's warranty. Buildings described as pressure treated need less upkeep.
In England, most garden buildings count as permitted development, so you will not usually need planning permission. Limits apply, for example a total height of 2.5m or less within 2m of a boundary, no buildings in front of the house, and no sleeping accommodation. Different rules apply to listed buildings, conservation areas and flats. If you are unsure, check with your local council before you order.
No. Every building arrives needing assembly, and we recommend two people. If you have any questions before you order, call us on 0330 043 0361 (Mon–Fri 8am–5pm).
