Gardeco Chimenea:  Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Chimena?

A chimena is a type of heater that originates from mexico and has become popular in the UK.

They can be used to burn wood or charcoal and either used as a heater in the garden or as a wonderful ornament to brighten up your outdoor space or patio.

Many people use them to add some warmth to their dining or lounge area and create a warm ambience for them and their guests to enjoy.

Traditionally, a chiminea is made of clay and designed in a wide-bottom vase form, with a narrow, vertical chimney through which to direct smoke and a wide mouth on its side for the fire pit. The chiminea's design allows it to be used in the rain without the water extinguishing its flame.

What type of fuel should i use for my patio heater?

Primarily, people use wood to burn inside their chimeneas but you can also use charcoal that will produce a stronger heat or can be used to barbeque with and cook a meal.

The charcoal will also burn longer thus making it a more cost effective fuel to use with your chimenea.

What is the difference between a fire pit and a chiminea?

The main difference between a chimenea and a fire pit are the shape. A fire pit is usually more rounded in its shape and smaller in height and close to the ground whereas the chimenea is usually taller and fat in its belly and narrow towards its top or "chimney"

Fire pits are a lot more open and exposed to air whereas the chimenea will keep the fire contained more and bur for longer up and out through its chimney.

Can you cook on a chimenea?

Yes, you can cook on a chimenea and its one of the main benefits people look for when buying one.

With its oven-like quality you may choose to bake bread, pizzas steaks or anything else you'd consider to put inside your oven!

You can bake foods like potatoes in the coals by wrapping them firstly into some foil aluminium wrap. To cook say a steak you can use a ceramic tile or metal sheet to cook by placing the steak on the ceramic tile and letting it heat and cook the meat. Lastly and more simply you can even just place a baking dish onto the hot coals and it will also cook your food this way to!
